Day 78: There is a phenomenon here known as "la brisa loca" (the crazy wind). It's the trade winds and they blow in around November/December and don't blow out until April/May. It is not an exaggeration to say these winds are "crazy". They blow from the mountains towards the ocean, so when they were here we literally couldn't open our front door without everything blowing all over the place. Anything that wasn't nailed down got sent straight out to our balcony.
Last week when I was grading student essays, I opened the door because I thought the breeze was over, and almost sent ALL THE ESSAYS over the balcony. I lept over the table and Lauren reached over and we saved them all (thank god).
Day 79: On all the beaches here they have little tents you can rent for like 10k a day. It lets you sit out on the beach without dying of heatstroke.
Day 80: Vendors on the beach and in the city sell everything from food to sunglasses to kids' beach toys. This was someone selling fruit and fruit juice.
Day 81: Random picture of teeth cleaning.
Day 82: Our friend Jairo sells jewelry and clay sculptures that he makes. It's a big business here to sell handmade jewelry. Cruise ships come into harbor here and all the local vendors sell to the tourists. They make a lot of money if they speak enough English to say "Hand made" "Real silver" and "twenty dollars".
Day 83: About 500,000 pesos. Don't I look like Carmen Sandiego?
Day 84: Lauren enjoying an evening on our balcony.
